The territory of Mattinata covers an area of ??almost 72 km2 included in the Gargano National Park. The inhabited center is nestled in a green valley of olive trees surrounded by the sea and woods. The stretch of sea that goes from Mattinata to Vieste is known for its white cliffs, for its stacks and for its ravines and caves, some of which have not yet been fully explored. They are located at the Baia delle Zagare.

Mattinata lies on two hills, Coppa Madonna and Castelluccio, surrounded by Monte Saraceno to the south, by Monte Sacro to the north, by the plain of olive groves and by the sea to the east and by Monte Sant’Angelo to the west.
